Owens Library Celebrates

Northwest Missouri State University officials are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the opening of the B-D Owens Library on the Maryville campus.

The July, 1979 fire of the Northwest Administration Building sparked several construction projects on campus including a new library which was completed in 1983. The university president at the time...B-D Owens pushed hard with state legislators to fund the project. Owens says he felt the University needed a library building that could adapt to future needs of the school.

Besides the construction of the new library, university officials were able to find funds for the renovation of the administration building and the construction of a new performing arts center which is now named the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.
