Special Olympics Awards

Several Northwest Missouri residents were recently honored by Special Olympics Missouri for their contributions to the organization.

Special Olympics is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Northwest District Coordinator Melody Prawitz says the Rash Family from northwest Missouri is this year's statewide "Outstanding Family of the Year."

Prawitz says the Northwest District also honored a number of volunteers who were recognized during the Special Olympics Leadership Conference held earlier this month in Branson. The Outstanding Coach Award went to Bev Gardner of Maryville, the Outstanding Volunteer to Ron Hook of St. Joseph and the Outstanding Athlete to Tanner Hrenchir of Wathena, Kansas.
