Bearcat Football Team moves to Fifth

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat football team moves to fifth in the nation after Saturday's 31-21 win over Pittsburgh State.

The Gorillas...drop from their number one ranked position they've held throughout the season to a tie for 7th with Minnesota-Duluth. Colorado State-Pueblo moves into the top spot in this week's American Football Coaches Association Top 25 poll. Winston-Salem State is second, New Haven third and Bloomsburg is fourth. Missouri Western, after their loss to Missouri Southern, falls to 16th this week...Emporia State and Washburn are tied for 18th. The Bearcats came back from a 14 point deficit Saturday night to defeat Pittsburgh State 31-21 in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead. Northwest scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to secure the win. Bearcat head coach Adam Dorrel credits senior leadership on his team for the victory.

The Bearcats improve to 6 and 1 overall and 5 and 1 in the MIAA...while Pittsburgh State falls to 5 and 1 overall and in the MIAA. Up next is a trip to Joplin Saturday for a match up with Missouri Southern. The Lion's are coming off a win over Missouri Western Saturday. Northwest punter Kyle Goodburn is this week's MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week...where he averaged 46.2 yards per punt on six punts...with three of his efforts landing inside the ten yard line.
