Livingston Co Jail Closing

A northwest Missouri jail dating back more than 30 years is closing.

The Livingston County Jail announced it is shutting down the facility north of Chillicothe, and moving inmates to the Daviess-Dekalb County Regional Jail in Pattonsburg. The decision means five full-time employees at the jail will lose their jobs. They learned of the closure last Friday. Livingston County Commissioners made the public announcement during a news conference in Chillicothe. Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says the closure comes at an unfortunate time of year.

Cox says the deputies' focus needs to be on the community, rather than problems at the jail.
