Earhart Memorial Bridge

Atchison County, Kansas officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week to mark the official opening of the new Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge that spans the Missouri River between Missouri and Kansas.

The new bridge is a four-lane, tied arch structure that stretches nearly 2,500 feet over the river and is distinguishable by its double steel arches on the main river span. It is replacing the old two-lane bridge that was completed in 1938. Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback spoke at the event and said the newly built bridge is a vast improvement on the old bridge.

The Amelia Earhart Bridge replacement is a cooperative project funded by the Missouri and Kansas Department's of Transportation.
