Training Class and Deployment

The Red Cross in St. Joseph is holding additional training classes for people interested in volunteering for disaster relief.

Director of the Midland Empire Chapter's Emergency Services, Karla Long, is being deployed to New Jersey to provide leadership in Disaster Operation Management. Long is expected to leave today for a three week assignment and is the sixteenth local volunteer to help with Hurricane Sandy recovery. Long says her assignment in New Jersey is to lead and guide the operation going on right now.

Long says they are looking for healthy, patient volunteers with no medical issues and who are ready to deploy for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Red Cross does pay volunteers for travel expenses, as well as provides meals and a place to stay. This class will be held tomorrow from 9 A-M to 3 P-M at the American Red Cross building. To sign up for the class call 816-232-8439.
