Maryville Disinfection Changes

For one month now, Maryville residents have been drinking and using better water.

The Maryville water treatment plant changed its process for disinfecting drinking water from using chlorine to chloramines. Chloramines are less reactive than chlorine, while still providing protection against bacteria in drinking water. Maryville made the switch to chloramines to help prevent trihalomethane formation in the water. Lead operator of people service inc., Joe Finch says the switch removed most of the chlorine odor and taste from the water. Finch says the change should also be a health benefit for Maryville residents.
