A beloved longtime educator in Northwest Missouri has passed away.
Dr. Anna Frances Shipley-Groff, 73, of Maryville passed Friday morning at her home. Dr. Shipley-Groff was known throughout Missouri for her leadership in the Family and Consumer Science field. Dr. Shipley-Groff, a 1961 Northwest graduate, accepted a faculty position at Northwest in 1968 in what-was-then the Vocational Home Economics Department. During Dr. Shipley-Groff's 40 years at Northwest she served as Department Chair for 30 years, Graduate Dean for 20 years, interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and interim Vice President for Academic Affairs among others. She received the Lifetime Achievement award from Missouri Educators of Family and Consumer Sciences, she was the first recipient of the Culture of Quality Award, and has been presented Tower Service awards, and the MACE award from Northwest. Memorial services for Dr. Shipley-Groff will be this Wednesday morning at 10-30 am at the First Christian Church in Maryville. in lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to go to the First Christian Church or SSM Hospice of Northwest Missouri.
