Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

The University of Missouri Extension calls attention to an epidemic affecting children across the nation.

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month and Nutrition and Health Education Specialist at Missouri Extension Kelli Wilmes says 23 million children and teenagers in the United States are overweight.

Wilmes says parents and other adults should be the ones to model good health behaviors. The University of Missouri Extension provides nutrition education to schools and daycare centers. Nutrition program assistants teach the Eat Smart guidelines which focus on creating a healthy nutritional environment and preparing healthier foods for children.
