Cover Crop Funding

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced funding available to help landowners in Missouri establish cover crops if their land was damaged by the flooding in 2011.

The NRCS announced that parts of 11 Missouri counties are included in the Missouri River Corridor Cover Crop Initiative. Assistant State Conservationist, Mark Kulig says the N-R-C-S was lucky to find this funding for farmers in need.

The funding can be used for cover crops, critical area planting, residue and tillage management, or tree and shrub establishment. Kulig says the extensive flooding has left large amounts of sands on land that can be nourished by cover crops.

Applications to apply for funding are due Friday August 3rd. Landowners interested in applying should contact their local N-R-C-S offices.
