Pavement Blowups

As temperatures continue to rise in the Northwest Missouri areas, drivers are being encouraged to keep a look out for pavement blow outs.

Pavement blow outs occur when temperatures hover in the high 90s for an extended period of time. As sections of pavement expand with increasing temperatures, moisture in the cracks and joints cause the pavement to buckle. Missouri Department of Transportation Customer Relations Manager Melissa Black says drivers should initially avoid these blow outs like they avoid pot holes.

Black says Mo-Dot Crews are also monitoring state routes for these blow-ups and will make repairs as soon as possible.
