The long-awaited completion of the Amelia Earhart bridge between Missouri and Kansas is getting closer.
This Friday morning crews are set to put the final piece of arch span connection onto the structure's south side. If all goes to schedule, by 8 Friday morning the arch span section of the Highway 59 Earhart bridge will be complete. Workers will then secure the arch span cables, remove the cranes, and work to complete the bridge deck. The new Amelia Earhart bridge- which adds two more lanes for a total of four is set to open this September, with removal of the old bridge starting early next year.
