Boating season preparations

As temperatures warm up more people will begin taking advantage of the regions lakes and rivers for boating and fishing.

One of the area's more popular destinations is Mozingo Lake just east of Maryville. Public Safety Director Keith Wood says the lake has been used mainly for fishing this spring but anticipates more boaters on the lake during the next couple of weekends. Wood says it's important to do a safety check before heading out for the first time this spring.

Wood says having more people on a boat than it is designed for is one of the more common violations his officers see on the lake each year.
