Backpack Buddies

Each weekend, the Backpack Buddies program provides schoolchildren in need with a backpack full of food to take home on Fridays.

With school letting out for the summer, Backpack Buddies will not be available, but Chief Operating Officer of the Second Harvest Community Food Bank, Tamara Grubb says they are finding other ways to feed families in need.

Families can receive these boxes in June, July and August. This is the first summer the food bank is providing these two programs and they hope tp launch the same type of summer programs regionally for next summer. Since the program began 9 years ago in the St.Joseph District, Grubb says it has expanded in include 2,500 children in 15 counties in over 50 schools in Missouri and Kansas.
