Seat Belts

This week is All American Buckle Up Week.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is making efforts to remind the population of its zero-tolerance policy for non-compliance, as well as the safety benefits of buckling up. Sergeant Sheldon Lion of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop H headquarters in St.Joseph says all automobile safety technology comes back to the seat belt.

The highway patrol will have a trooper every 20 miles on select highways and interstates this week in order to have a heavier presence. Lyon says he hopes more people will wear the belt with safety in mind.

When worn correctly, seat belts can reduce the risk of death by 45 percent and serious injuries by 50 percent for front seat occupants. For more information, visit www.savemolives.com.
