The Missouri State Highway Patrol honors 32 troopers in an awards ceremony, including several from northwest Missouri.
Trooper Aaron K. Griffin of Troop H in St. Joseph was awarded the 2011 lifesaving award. Griffin receives the award for his efforts in assisting a serious traffic accident involving multiple vehicles. Griffin's quick thinking and medical training was instrumental in saving a pair of lives. Captain Duane L. Robinson in Troop H was honored with 2011 Benjamin Oliver booth officer of the year award. Robinson receives the award for admirable leadership and guidance. And the Missouri State Highway Patrol honored fallen trooper Frederick "Fred" Guthrie Junior of Troop A with the 2011 Memorial Award. Guthrie along with his K-9 unit Reed disappeared in rushing flood waters on August 2, 2011 in northwest Missouri. Trooper Guthrie was recovered and brought home on January 12 of this year.
