Several young farmers from Maryville and Hopkins take the state FFA Association's top awards.
Sidney Schenkel of area 1 and Northwest Technical FFA Chapter is named the state star farmer during the recent 84th annual MIssouri FFA convention. Schenkel was selected from the 16 area winners from 27 chapters based on outstanding production agriculture and active participation in FFA. She's been recognized for growing a project of 10 Angus heifers and 13 acres of row crop to maintaining her herd and expanding the crops operation to 155 acres. Also taking honors during the convention is Leslie Ann Birkenholz of Hopkins, winning the specialty animal production entrepreneurship and placement combined award. Clay Boyles of Maryville won the state's mechanics repair and maintenance entrepreneurship proficiency award.
