The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a questionable business.
Falling short of calling it fraud, detective Mark Brock says an Omaha-based company is trying to sell vacuum cleaners in the St. Joseph area. Brock says the company goes by the name "Heartland Health Systems", but has no connection with the "Heartland Health" that runs the hospital in St. Joseph. Investigators say the company is selling a vacuum cleaner for $2,600 and a stand-alone filter for $999. The Sheriff's Department says the company admits the system can be purchased for much cheaper elsewhere, but says their lifetime warranty justifies the elevated price. The department says the company appears to be legitimate, but is not accredited by the better business bureau and reportedly could be targeting elderly residents. Investigators say residents should proceed with caution.
