The Missouri Western State University concert chorale will host the 3rd annual governor's verses and voices festival concert tomorrow evening.
The festival will be in the Missouri State Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City. 5 high school choirs, including Benton High and Savannah High's choirs will perform. Each of the 6 choirs will sing one song from a Missouri composer and one song by a Missouri poet. The choirs will combine to present 2 new songs commissioned for the event, including "Dream Ship" composed by Susan Labarr from the poem by Eugene Field. "Dream Ship" is dedicated to Missouri's governor and first lady. Labarr's other new song, "Storm Country," is dedicated to the people of Joplin, remembering the tornado of May 2011 and commemorating the help and hope that followed it. The governor's verses and voices festival concert starts at 7:30 tomorrow at the state capitol. The statehouse event is free and open to the public.
