A new round of grants have been released to help several northwest Missouri communities recover from last year's Missouri River Flooding.
All totaled they will share in nearly 1.3 million dollars in community development block grants through the state of Missouri. Included is the Atchison County Special Road District, which will receive $77,000 for new fill and rock base for road grading. The Phelps City Special Road District west of Rockport is getting more than $361,000 for re-building Avenue C and decreasing the risk of future flooding to roads, utilities, and farmland nearby. The Phelps City dyke and drainage district will see $74,000 in grants for removal of flood silt. West of Watson the north Nishnatotna Drainage District is getting $137,000 to remove debris and sediment in Watson's drainage ditches. Holt County Levee District number 9 in south-central Holt county will get more than $221,000 to help re-build several levees that protect the Towns of Fortescue and Forest City. And southern holt county's Canon Drainage District will get nearly $415,000 for erosion repaired.
