Several communities in our region have been designated mercury drop off sites.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is launching the collection effort as a way to keep thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, thermostats, and other devices containing mercury out of landfills. The facilities taking the items include the Buchanan County Health Department in St. Joseph, which is accepting them from 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday, the Public Safety Department in Maryville from 8 to 4:30 weekdays, and the Tri-County Health Department in Stanberry during those same times.
