Counterfeit Notes

At least 8 businesses in St. Joseph have lost money because of counterfeit federal reserve notes circulating there.

The St. Joseph Police say most of the notes are fake $20, one is for $10. Investigators are warning all St. Joseph businesses and financial institutions to be on the lookout and have employees checking currency as it comes in. They say one thing to watch for is color shifting ink-real notes have ink going from bronze to green in the bottom right of each bill. The fake bills being circulated are all from 2009 and have a serial number starting with JJ or JC. The St. Joseph Police say they are working with the federal secret service on the investigation.
