College Funding Talks

As college presidents meet with the governor today in Jefferson City, the chair of the House's Higher Education Committee from Maryville says lawmakers are trying to find even more money to put back in higher education budgets.

Missouri's governor plans on using 40 million dollars form a multi-state legal settlement to bring withholdings to Northwest in Maryville, Missouri Western in St. Joseph, and North Central in Trenton from a proposed 12.5% cut down to about 8%. The state has already withheld millions from Missouri's colleges and universities for the past two years. Maryville representative Mike Thomson says he embraces the governor's move to put 40 million back into the state college budgets, bust says lawmakers are looking for even more.
