Western Opera

3 students and a faculty member from the music department at Missouri Western State University rank in a national opera competition in Memphis.

The group from the school's opera workshop came in second place in the National Opera Association's Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition. Brigham Young university placed first. Students Adrienne Collins and Kyle Minx performed a ten minute scene from "The Telephone." Student Donovan Jones was their collaborative pianist. Associate professor of music, Dr. Susan Collins says the group didn't have the same theatrical tools while performing in Memphis.

Dr. Carter says the opera workshop is preparing to perform several opera scenes this spring. One performance will be used as an entry for next years competition in Portland Oregon.
