A St. Joseph resident is one of 3 Missouri veterans that governor Jay Nixon has awarded with the Legion of Honor Medal.
Frank Cooks joined the army air corps shortly after graduating from high school in St. Joseph and spent 40 years in the military retiring as a major general. During the war he flew in a B-26 Marauder. The Legion of Honor Medal is the highest award bestowed by the French government for service to the country. Frank Cooks, along with Lloyd Cain and Francis Jones of Jefferson City received the award Monday for their distinguished service during the liberation of France during World War Two.
