Guthrie Found

The mystery is over: After nearly half a year of searching, crews have recovered the body of trooper Fred Guthrie Junior.

The Missouri Highway Patrol trooper and his K-9 Reed disappeared in flooded Missouri River waters back on August first near Big Lake. 9,000 gallons of water were pumped to drain a 4-acre scour hole, and heavy equipment and cadaver dogs were also used the past several months in the search. Yesterday afternoon about 2 O'clock road crews repairing a sour hole on Highway 111 in Holt county found Guthrie's body in a brush pile south of where his K-9 was recovered the day after the two disappeared. Missouri Highway Patrol sergeant Collin Strosberg says this puts closure for Guthrie's comrades and his family.
