Big Lake Redevelopment

State officials are moving forward with plans for Big Lake to recover from last year's flooding.

Series of public input forums are being held, where residents can give advice on two main redevelopment plans for the lake. The first would demolish the existing motel and rental cabins at the lake, which both had feet of water from the Missouri River Flood. It calls for a new walking trail through the Marshland area. The second proposal calls for upgrading the cabins and re-building the dining lodge into a multi-purpose room complete with a convenience store and open porch for gatherings. But Missouri State Parks District supervisor Dan Files says they are not going to do anything until the levees are built back.
