The city of Savannah is hiring a consultant to make sure the recent water rate increases were appropriate, or if more are needed in the future.
The city has hired Carl Brown to investigate the issues surrounding water costs. Savannah officials are considering another rate change because of issues like anticipated cost increases, debt refinancing, and dealing with the closure of the old water plant. Brown has proposed 3 site visits plus the water rate analysis report for a cost of $7,200. Savannah city administrator Jill Cornett says hiring the 3rd-party analyst will separate the facts from emotions of the rate hike, the affect on customers, and the history of the issue. The vote was unanimous.
