Dec. 6, 2011HOLT COUNTY, MO | By: Wayman
Holt County residents have governor Jay Nixon advocating for them.
The governor has sent a letter to the US Army Corps of Engineer's general in charge of the MIssouri River. He's asking the Corps to restore a Holt County Levee, L-497 to its pre-flood conditions. In May the Corps determined that levee is not eligible for funds from the Corp's rehabilitation and inspection program. The governor says requiring the local levee district to pay for the damage caused by the Corp's actions is "Unjust". The levee in question protects about 8,000 acres from Missouri River water.
