Missouri senator Claire McCaskill has joined other lawmakers in calling for a freeze of closing postal facilities.
McCaskill wants senate leadership to require the postal service to delay closures for 6 months. She says that would allow congress to enact necessary reforms to potentially save rural post offices and postal distribution centers in larger urban areas. Right now the service is considering closing nearly 3,700 mostly rural post offices and 250 mail centers across the United States. McCaskill points out the house of representatives is also working on postal service reform.
