McCaskill Earmarks

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill has introduced a bill to put a permanent ban on federal earmarks, the legislative practice of funding specific projects.

McCaskill says lawmakers shouldn't bring back money for their district, but make sure projects compete on merit.

John Brunner, a Republican running for McCaskill's seat, pointed out she has voted for hundreds of earmarks, and calls her bill an election year strategy. Currently there's a temporary ban on earmarks; if passed McCaskill's bill would make that permanent.
