The US Army Corps of Engineers has reinstated that federal levee in Holt county it originally said it would not pay to fix.
About 6 days ago governor Jay Nixon appealed to the Corps to help fund re-building of Levee 497, which protects about 8,000 acres in Holt county, including the town of forest city. The levee has about 4 million dollars in damage from this summer's Missouri River Flooding. Back in May the Corps said the levee would not be eligible for federal funding under the rehabilitation and inspection program. Yesterday's decision reverses that and put it back into the rehabilitation program.
