St. Francis Hospital and Health Services receives a grant from the nations oldest independent preferred provider organization to help prevent diabetes.
Multiplan, not only the nations oldest independent PPO, but also the nations largest, selected St. Francis from 114 applicants to receive a $3,000 rural health outreach grant. The grant allows the hospital to reach out to more county schools to educate students at the 5th and 6th grade levels and their families about diabetes prevention. St. Francis's goal with the increased prevention education is to encourage behavior changes that lower the risk of developing type two diabetes. The grant allows prevention efforts to spread into Atchison, Dekalb, Gentry and Mercer counties in northwest MIssouri.
