The Hiawatha City Commission reviews next year's economic development budget.
Commissioners have budgeted $32,000 next year for projects going into the Hiawatha foundation for economic development. In the past 6 years money from that account has gone to at least 5 major projects, including special improvement's to Hiawatha's Longfellow addition an improvements to the industrial park. Mayor Crosby Gernon is suggesting if groups receive more than a set amount from the fund, they should provide an annual written report on how the money is spent. Commissioners agreed to continue open lines of communication with the foundation to continue projects in the future.
