Nov. 4, 2011HOLT COUNTY, MO | By: Wayman
Crews continue searching in northwest MIssouri for a missing Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper.
Patrol spokesman Sgt. Sheldon Lyon said this morning the search for Trooper Fred Guthrie has been focusing on that four-acre hole in Holt County carved out by flood waters and drained by workers the past week. The searchers are using backhoes and shovels to search the area hit hard by floodwaters from the Missouri River. Yesterday crews found an article of clothing that's been sent for testing to determine if it belonged to Guthrie. The body of Guthrie's dog, Reed, was found Aug. 2nd near the area where the search is under way. Guthrie was reported missing Aug. 1st. while working flood duty near Big Lake. Lyon said crews are also bringing in more heavy equipment supplied by a friend of Guthrie's to help in the search today.
