Guthrie Award

The north Missouri trooper missing from flooding in Holt county has been named officer of the year in Kansas City.

The Platte-City based Fred Guthrie Junior disappeared on August 1st while patrolling Holt county flooding and is presumed drowned. Guthrie was one of two named as officer of the year during Kansas City's annual awards for valor ceremony. The other Kansas City area officer, Jeff Taylor, was struck by lightning while helping with recovery efforts in Joplin. The body of Guthrie's K-9 partner was found days after their disappearance near Big Lake. The search for Guthrie has been scaled back but is continuing.
