Several communities in our listening area will be sharing new money coming in for rural housing.
The grants are through the USDA's rural development housing preservation grant which is designed to make critical repairs and improve conditions for low and very low income residents. In our region Decatur county Iowa will share about $55,000 coming through the South Central Iowa Community Action Program. In north Missouri the rural advocates for independent living is receiving $50,000. North east Kansas's homestead affordable housing agency is getting nearly $48,000 for projects in the region. The money can be used for both general repairs to homes and for westernization efforts.
