The Hiawatha commission agrees to donate street lights for theMaple Heights Nursing Home.

A donor to the nursing home is donating $5,000 for lighting down the driveway to the facility. The Hiawatha commission voted to donate up to 10 used streetlights to the nursing home, allowing the donation to be used to install and maintain them. Also at the recent meeting commissioners approved a 50-50 match with the school district to purchase seven aluminum poles from Westar for replacement lighting on Redhawk Drive. The poles will be installed for a little more than $9,000 each for the city and school, with $33 per month maintenance fees.
