A couple from Brownville Nebraska picks up the state's highest tourism award.
The Nebraska 2011 Henry Fonda Award goes to Jane and Randel Smith of Brownville, the creators of the Brownville Village Theatre. The Smiths are being recognized for a "Build it and they will come" strategy of tourist attractions for the village. Between 1960 and 1980 they not only started the theatre, but served as presidents of the Brownville historical society, started a tourism and gift shop district, riverboat tours in 1970 and built campground and facilities for Brownville. They also opened up a bed and breakfast there in 2009. The Smith's recognition came during the recent 36th Annual Nebraska Travel and Tourism Conference.
