Oct. 4, 2011DAVIESS COUNTY, MO | By: Wayman
A state audit of Daviess county Missouri finds several items to work on but an improving financial picture.
Investigators say the county's developmentally disabled board needs to more closely review and properly approve disbursements made by its treasurer. They found nearly $25,000 were made in unauthorized disbursements. The board says a new treasurer is now properly preparing monthly financial reports. The state audit also found the total Daviess county government spending exceeded the revenues by nearly $350,000 for the year ended 2009. That dropped to a deficit of just $14,000 last year. Auditors noted county sales taxes and property taxes in Daviess county have increased slightly the past 2 years, adding that's encouraging due to the current economic times.
