Missouri Flood Funding

Funding talks for Northwest Missouri Flooding and Joplin recovery may be back on the table during this week's special session.

The House Budget Committee has passed a bill by a 22 to 1 vote that challenges governor Jay Nixon to add funding for disaster relief. It urges the governor to use the rainy day fund to help residents trying to recover from the disasters. House Budget Committee chair Ryan Silvey says he hopes Nixon will use the money from the rainy day fund instead of taking it from the general fund.

The loan opposition to the move in the Budget Committee says the cost of flood clean up in north Missouri remains unknown and it's premature to pass legislation before knowing what the cost will be. The vote moves the bill from that committee to the House floor.
