MO River Priorities

Tarkio congressman Sam Graves has introduced a bill that aims at putting into law flood control as the top priority for the Army Corps of Engineers.

The House bill has been co-sponsored by 3 other Missouri representatives along with Iowa congressman Steve King. Graves says this year the Corps budgeted 73 million dollars on conservation efforts in the Missouri River, and 6 million on flood control from Nebraska to the mouth of the river. Graves says the bill would direct the Corp to actually delete fish and wildlife conservation projects and elevate flood control as the top priority.

The bill is one result from the multi-state Missouri River working group of lawmakers from states bordering the river.
