Sept. 1, 2011HIAWATHA, KS | By: Wayman
The Hiawatha City Commission finds out the Oregon Street upgrades are going to be more expensive than first thought.
Contractors have been hired to re-do the curb and gutter on Oregon, but there's been a misunderstanding on measuring the length of the work since driveway approaches weren't included in the bid and the budget fell short to do both sides of the block. The Hiawatha commission has decided rather than releasing the contractor and having to get him back and mobilized with equipment, they have moved about $10,000 more into the budget for the upgrades. Commissioners are also considering options for installing more registers on meters around town, which will cost another $26,000 ~ $28,000.
