Missouri Western in St. Joseph has gotten nearly half a million dollars in grant money for research in synthetic biology.
The money comes from the National Science Foundation. One of the projects, supported with a $200,000 grant, is in the area of "Bacterial Computers" or merging biology and mathematics. The other grant will go for creating a national conference on synthetic biological research.
