Savannah continues looking for ways to save the city's budget, this time by investigating health insurance for city employees.
Two bids for health insurance have been submitted, both Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna are vying for the city's business. The bids are about $1,300 apart. Savannah officials are considering raising the current deductible of a thousand dollars for city employees and raising the 40% insured dependent payments to 75%. City manager Jill Cornett is recommending the city investigate further the apparent low bidder Aetna and investigate a $2,000 deductible for employees. The city council is still reviewing the information and is expected to take up the issue at a future council meeting.
