Post Office Meetings

About 25 citizens turned out for a forum to hear from postal officials on why Pickering is on the list for post office closure.

Also attending were Maryville Representative Mike Thomson and a member of congressman Sam Grave's staff. The Postal Service says there are 2 criteria that puts a post office on the potential closure list: bringing in less than $27,500 of revenue per year or having a postmaster that works less than 2 hours per day. Pickering resident Marie Walsh says closing the post office is a hit for service and for society.

There is no comment from the post office's side Russell Jacobson, who is the Shawnee Mission Kansas Post Office manager moderating the Pickering meeting, refused an on tape interview with us, and told the crowd there would be no audio recordings of the session.
