Premium Standard Farms says it remains ahead of schedule to install barn scrapers in its facilities.
PSF is facing a state deadline of July 31st next year to put the scrapers in which act like giant squeegees and scrap hog waste into under floor pits to help control odor. The company says it's already retrofitted 262 of its hog barns, and now 40 finishing barns, two nurseries, and 8 sow farms await conversion. The company's president says he expects the scrapers to be in all the nurseries and finishers by October 1st, then install them in the remaining sow farms. He adds he's pleased with how the scrapers have been performing.
