Missing Flood Trooper

Numerous law enforcement agencies are continuing the search this morning for a missing Missouri Highway Patrolman who disappeared yesterday while on flood patrol duty near Big Lake in Holt County.

The Highway patrol says 46 year old Fred Guthrie Junior of Platte City and his K-9 Reed were part of the water patrol division. They say truck was discovered about 2 hours after his colleagues broke for lunch yesterday but the trooper and his dog were gone. An overnight search focused around the Highway 118 and 111 area but didn't find anything through the night. The patrol tells KXCV news this morning the search has turned into a water recovery effort. They are using both air patrol as well as ground troops. Patrol spokesman Sheldon Lyon says there is a current in the flood waters around the Big Lake area and several thousand acres in Holt county remain underwater.
