Mason Honored

Missouri's governor has ordered flags at all state and government offices to fly at half staff today in honor of special warfare chief petty officer Matthew Mason.

The seal died August 6th in Afghanistan and was a Holt native. Mason was one of several American soldiers who died when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan. He was also a 1998 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, along with his wife Jessica who graduated in 2000. Mason was highly decorated, earning 2 bronze stars, 2 purple hearts, and a list of other medals. Flags are to fly at half staff until sunset tonight.
