Main Street Fire

Three businesses and an apartment complex in downtown Maryville area a total loss after an apartment fire spreads early this morning.

A dozen residents are also homeless. Fire and police units were dispatched shortly after 1:30 this morning to the southwest corner of the square located on corner of 3rd and Main, that's across from the downtown Mural. According to Public Safety officials, the fire was started by careless smoking by one of the tenets in the apartments. Maryville Public Safety director Keith Wood says once fire and police units arrived on scene the fire was rapidly spreading.

Businesses affected are looks Salon, Dave Weigle's Shelter Insurance office and a private probation office. The 200 Block of North Main Street and the 100 Block of 3rd Street will remain closed until the unstable remaining brick walls can be brought down.
